Vinatech receives Innovation award from President

Korean based Vinatech, an innovative manufacturer of Ultra Capacitors, known as Hy-Cap, has recently won a prestigious Technology Innovation award from Park Geun-hye, President of South Korea.

This prestigious award recognises the break through in EDLC Capacitor development and the launch of mass produced 3V series of products covering from 3 Farad to 600 Farad and rated at -40c~+65c.

This seemingly small step increases capacitance density by 23% and a cell reduction of 10% for hi density applications such as Solar and Wind energy harvesting, Electric and Hybrid Vehicles thus reducing costs, weight and size in this important market for renewable and recycling energy.

Compared with batteries, super capacitors have longer life time, faster charging and discharge times with 1000 times longer cycle life than Batteries. Vinatech Hy-Cap products have one-tenth of the energy of batteries, but delivers over 10 times the power due to the ultra low ESR characteristics, so, many designers are moving towards Ultra Capacitors as their alternative energy storage devices.

Vinatech appointed BT2000 as their UK & Ireland Representative and Distributor earlier this year. The hi-density technology covers a high capacitance range of 0.75 Farad to 900 Farad in EDLC and Hybrid P-EDLC options. During 2013 BT2000 expect further boundary breaking announcements with the extension of their range for markets such as UPS, SSDs Toys & DVRs, Electric & Hybrid vehicles and renewable energies along with, Actuators, AMR and products for communications media.

    Cellergy Through Hole Supercapacitors Now Suitable for Wave Soldering

    Wave Soldering of Cellergy supercapacitors (SCs) to PCB's was tested for through-hole printed circuit assemblies only. The challenge of wave soldering for supercapacitors with aqueous electrolyte as well as organic electrolyte is the high ambient temperature in the wave soldering bath and preheating oven. Electrical performance of the SCs was measured before and after the Wave Soldering.
    Wave soldering is a large-scale soldering process by which electronic components are soldered to a PCB to form an electronic assembly. The process is much faster, thus can lower the cost of assembly and can create a
    higher quality product than manual soldering of components. The name is derived from the use of waves of molten solder to attach metal components to
    the PCB.
    The process uses a tank (or bath) to hold a quantity of molten solder; the components are inserted into the PCB and the loaded PCB is passed across
    a pumped wave or waterfall of solder. The solder wets the exposed metallic leads protruding from the bottom of the PCB, creating a reliable mechanical
    and electrical connection.
    Wave soldering is largely used where SMT is not suitable (e.g. large power devices and high pin count connectors), or where simple through-hole technology prevails (certain major appliances).

    MEMS Pressure Sensor Manufacturer SensDev appoints Broadband Technology 2000 for the UK & Ireland

    German based manufacturer of Digital Pressure Sensors, SensDev UG, has appointed Broadband Technology 2000 ltd to market their innovative range of MEMS Pressure sensors in the UK & Ireland.
    SensDev, based in Burgstaedt, Germany, have developed their innovative pressure solutions over a long period and have now developed a unique technology much further advanced than similar technologies.Typical Applications for SensDev Digital Pressure sensor technology include the Utility markets, Industrial automation & production, test & measurement, medical and automotive markets
    The latest SensDev SCPB Series of amplified analogue and 15 bit digital serial output (via I²C or SPI) pressure sensors (measuring range of 0.6mbar to 25bar) uses state of the art silicon micro machined (MEMS) pressure sensors in conjunction with stress free packaging techniques to provide cost effective temperature compensated (-40C to +125C) pressure sensors. Automotive specifications are available on request covering -55c~+150c. SensDev have a wide supply voltage range from 3.3V to 40V and features include fast response times of 0.56ms to 20ms which are factory selectable. All EMC filtering is on-board and various cable lengths / types and housings are available on request.
    The SensDev SCPB I2C feature communicates as a slave digitally via an I²C-bus interface and delivers (within less than 1ms) continual serial 15bit pressure data after powering up the sensor. It answers on I²C-bus Master requests. Slave addresses are individually programmable.
    SensDev production utilises a flexible manufacturing process enabling customer's specific requirements to be produced within short lead times with each unit having its own individual serial number, printed and readable via the EEPROM. Quality levels are second to none.

    A new, ultra-fast wireless Internet network is threatening to overpower GPS signals across the U.S. and interfere with everything from airplanes to police cars to consumer navigation devices.

The problem stems from a recent USA government decision to let a US based company called LightSquared build a USA wide broadband network using 1500mhz, next to those used for GPS. Manufacturers of GPS equipment are warning that strong signals from the planned network could interfere with existing navigation systems. Industry experts say that a technical fix could be expensive — billions of dollars by one estimate — and there's no agreement on who should pay. US Government officials pledge to block LightSquared from turning on its network as scheduled this year unless they receive assurances that GPS systems will still work. LightSquared and the FCC both insist the new network can co-exist with GPS systems. But device makers fear GPS signals will suffer the way a radio station can get drowned out by a stronger broadcast in a nearby channel. The problem, they say, is that sensitive satellite receivers — designed to pick up relatively weak signals coming from space — could be overwhelmed when LightSquared starts sending high-power signals from as many as 40,000 transmitters on the ground using the airwaves next door. Public-safety officials in the USA , too, are nervous about LightSquared because they rely on GPS to track and dispatch police cars, fire trucks and ambulances. Many emergency services systems also use GPS to help locate people. Disruptions could delay responses to emergencies, said Harlin McEwen, an official with the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Even the Pentagon has expressed concern as it relies on GPS to guide planes, ships, armored vehicles, weapons and troops. LightSquared won't be allowed to turn on its network until the US government is satisfied that any problems are addressed, FCC spokesman Rob Kenny said. Until now, GPS receivers haven't had much trouble filtering out noise in the adjacent airwaves because it consisted mostly of low-power signals beamed from space. But GPS manufacturers warn that will change once there is a major ground-based broadband network. Dan Hays, a consultant with the firm PRTM, insists the technical solution is straightforward: GPS devices need to include better filters to screen out the LightSquared signals. The MPU-6000 is a breakthrough in MEMS motion sensing technology with the integration of a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer on the same silicon die together with an onboard Digital Motion Processor™(DMP) capable of processing complex 9-axis sensor fusion algorithms.
